Your information
Privacy Notice
This notice explains how Zwag collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit zwag.co.uk, create an account, use member features, contact us or otherwise interact with the service.
Last updated: 28 August 2026.
1. Who is responsible for your information?
Zwag is the controller of personal information processed through zwag.co.uk.
Privacy enquiries and requests can be through our contact page.
If “Zwag” is a trading name rather than the full legal name of the operator, the full legal operator name and any legally required registered-business details must be added to this notice and the website footer before launch.
2. Information we may collect
- Account information: email address, password hash, account identifiers, account status and security/session information.
- Profile information: name, age, gender, relationship status, profile text, photos, postcode, town, city, country and location information you provide.
- Member activity: likes, matches, messages and other interactions with members.
- Safety and moderation information: reports, moderation decisions, warnings, account restrictions and related records.
- Contact information: information you provide when contacting Zwag or an administrator.
- Technical and security information: IP address, user-agent information, login attempts, security events and diagnostic information reasonably required to operate and protect the service.
- Payment or donation information: where a payment feature is offered, Zwag may receive transaction identifiers, amount, currency and limited payer/contact information from the payment provider. Zwag does not need to store full payment-card details.
- Analytics information: if you consent to optional analytics, information about how the website is used may be processed through the configured analytics provider.
3. Why we use personal information and our lawful bases
Depending on the activity, we process information to:
- create and administer accounts, display profiles and provide member-to-member features where processing is necessary to perform our contract with you;
- authenticate users, protect accounts, prevent abuse, investigate reports, moderate profiles/content and maintain service integrity where this is necessary for our legitimate interests in operating a safe and secure dating service;
- comply with legal, regulatory, law-enforcement, accounting or safeguarding obligations where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation;
- answer enquiries and take steps requested by you before entering into, or while administering, our relationship with you;
- use optional analytics only where you have given the required consent. You can change that choice through Cookie settings.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider the purpose, necessity and effect on members' rights before using that basis.
4. Sensitive information
Dating profiles and private conversations can sometimes reveal sensitive or special-category information, for example information about health, religion or sexual orientation. Please consider carefully what you choose to place in a profile or send to another member.
Zwag should not intentionally introduce a feature that requires special-category information unless the appropriate UK GDPR condition, transparency information and any required consent mechanism have first been identified and implemented.
5. Who can see or receive information?
- Other Zwag members can see information that the service makes available as part of your member profile and interactions.
- Administrators and authorised service personnel may access information where reasonably necessary for moderation, support, security and operation.
- Service providers may process information on our behalf, such as hosting, email, analytics (with consent) and payment providers.
- We may disclose information where required by law, to respond to lawful requests, protect users or others from harm, investigate suspected crime, or comply with applicable online-safety duties.
We do not sell member profile information as a data-broker service.
6. International processing
Some technology providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires a transfer safeguard, Zwag must ensure an appropriate transfer mechanism is in place before relying on that provider for the relevant processing.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including account administration, moderation, security, dispute handling and legal or accounting obligations.
Retention depends on the type of information and account status. Account/profile information is generally required while an account is active; temporary verification information is intended to expire after a short validation period; and security, moderation or transaction records may need to be retained for longer where reasonably necessary to prevent abuse, establish legal claims or meet statutory obligations.
Zwag maintains an internal retention schedule setting the operational period for each data category and securely delete or anonymise information when it is no longer required.
8. Your UK data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to request access to your personal information, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or to object to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
To make a privacy request, contact use our contact page. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
9. Complaints
Please contact Zwag first if you have a concern about how your personal information is handled so we can try to resolve it.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data-protection regulator.
10. Cookies and analytics
Necessary browser storage is used for core functionality and security. Optional analytics is controlled through our consent mechanism. See the Cookie Policy for more information.
11. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when our services, providers, legal obligations or processing activities change. Material changes should be communicated appropriately before a new use of personal information begins where the law requires this.
12. Age-verification information
Zwag is an adults-only service. Where a moderator has reasonable grounds to believe that a member may be under 18, we may ask for documentary evidence solely to establish that the member meets the 18+ age requirement.
Documentary evidence submitted through Zwag's dedicated verification page is encrypted before storage and is accessible only through the authorised admin verification workflow. It must not be reused for advertising, profiling or unrelated purposes.
The document itself is deleted when the verification decision is made. Submitted evidence that has not been reviewed is automatically removed from temporary storage after seven days. Zwag retains the verification outcome and necessary audit information rather than a continuing copy of the identity document.
