Protect your personal information

• Avoid sharing your home address, workplace, financial details, passwords or security codes with someone you have just met.
• Be cautious about moving a conversation away from Zwag immediately.
• Check what information your photos or social-media accounts reveal about your location and routine.

Romance fraud

Be suspicious if someone you have not met asks for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, an investment, a loan, travel costs or access to a bank account. Urgency, secrecy and elaborate emergencies are common manipulation techniques.

Never send money or financial credentials merely because someone says they are in a romantic relationship with you.

Before meeting

• Take enough time to decide whether you are comfortable meeting.
• Consider a voice or video call first where appropriate.
• Tell a trusted person where you are going and who you are meeting.
• Meet in a busy public place and arrange your own transport.
• Keep control of your phone, drink, belongings and journey home.

Consent and boundaries

Consent must be freely given and can be withdrawn. A match, message, date, previous sexual contact or relationship does not create an entitlement to sexual activity or continued contact.

If someone ignores your boundaries, stop contact and use the available block/report routes where appropriate.

If something feels wrong

Stop communicating, do not send further money or personal information, preserve relevant messages where safe to do so, and report the account to Zwag.

If you are in immediate danger in the UK, call 999. Suspected fraud can also be reported through the appropriate UK fraud-reporting channels.
